  83.        I have used this same configurations for a long time and it has been
  84.   working well for me, your computer hardware configuration may make your
  85.   setup behave otherwise.

  87.        I am also not claiming that my configurations and these programs will
  88.   be absolutely safe and that your systems will not crash. I did not write
  89.   any of this programs, and you use them and my suggested setup documentation
  90.   and configuration sample files AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am only trying to help
  91.   here; I don't want to end in court for my being helpful.
  92.  
  93.       Now I am going to tell you something you may not want to hear.
  94.   Setting up your system to accept Filebone files is definitely going to
  95.   take some time and efforts on your part. Hopefully this documentation
  96.   will smooth a lot of things over for you, but YOU will have to put in
  97.   your own dues. As with all things, your effort WILL PAY OFF.
  98.  
  99.      Please do not modify any of this file in anyway, if you have any
  100.   suggestions that may improve this setup documentations, please contact

  112.                     STEPS FOR THIS SETUP PROCEDURES:
  113.                     ================================
  114.  
  115.   1. Your Frontend Mailer must already be installed and running.
  116.      I also have various documentations on setting-up Mailers.
  117.  
  118.   2. Make sure all the needed fileareas are setup on your BBS.
  119.  
  120.   3.  To get started, you need to download the Allfix! program files from
  121.       any BBS close to you. 
  122.  
  123.     (i) For Wildcat! BBS setup, you need a shareware copy of Allfix! v1.10+ 
  124.         for Wildcat! BBS, or higher version when available.
  125.         Filename:  AFX!110E.ZIP   Filesize: 679k
  126.         Available on my BBS for first time caller download and can be
  127.         FREQ from my system at 1:278/111 with above filename or
  128.         MagicName of: ALLFIXWC
  129.  
  130.    (ii) For All other BBS setup, you need a shareware copy of Universal 
  131.         Allfix! v4.33, or higher version when available.
  132.         Filename:  AFIX433.ZIP   Filesize: 756k
  133.         Available on my BBS for first time caller download and can be
  134.         FREQ from my system at 1:278/111 with above filename or
  135.         MagicName of: ALLFIX
  136.  
  137.   4.  Read the README.TXT and AFIXSET.TXT files that included with this 
  138.       setup documentation package and follow all the instructions.
  139.       Print all the necessary documentations for handy reference.
  140.  
  141.   5.  Install your Allfix! v1.10 for Wildcat! in a directory called
  142.       \ALLFIX, example: C:\ALLFIX and then create or make the following 
  143.       sub-directories under the above \ALLFIX directory.
  144.       Our example is using drive C: but you can subsitute this for any
  145.       drive you intend to use, just make sure all the directory name
  146.       are the same... you can change the drive letter reference later.
  147.       Uncompress the TEMPLATE.ZIP or TEMPLATE.RAR etc that came in Allfix
  148.       program package into C:\ALLFIX\TEMPLATE\ directory.
  149.  
  150.       Make the following sub-directories:

  154.             C:\ALLFIX\FILE-OUT\

  165.   6.  Copy over all the files in this archive into the C:\ALLFIX directory 
  166.       and overwrite any setup file(s) you already have in this directory. 
  167.       The batch files with *.BAT extension may need editing or modifications.
  168.       Then start ASETUP.EXE in C:\ALLFIX directory to modify your settings.

  219.   7.  Adjust or modify the batch files (BASIC4.BAT & AFIXTOSS.BAT) 
  220.       enclosed in this packaged so as to fit or suit your drive letter 
  221.       and sub-directory setup of your system.
  222.  
  223.       AFIXTOSS.BAT --> This is the batch file you will run to make Allfix
  224.                        toss your files each time you receive files from
  225.                        your HUB. You will need to incorporate this batch
  226.                        into the batch file that starts your Frontend Mailer,
  227.                        so that it will run automatically when you poll your
  228.                        HUB and receive files.
  229.  
  230.           Note: If you are using Planet Connect, you may need to modify
  231.                 AFIXTOSS.BAT to move the files from your Planet Connect
  232.                 inbound/received files directory to the \ALLFIX\INBOUND\
  233.                 directory, or you can just point your Inbound Files path
  234.                 directory in Allfix filenames/path setup to the actual
  235.                 Planet Connect Inbound directory.
  236.  
  237.       BASIC4.BAT --> This batch file ONLY need to be run when you want to
  238.                      fix your database. You do not need to run this batch
  239.                      file unless you want to fix your database.
  240.                      I have enclosed this for sample purposes only.
  241.                      I personally run this batch file whenever I make any
  242.                      changes to my Allfix setup with ASETUP.EXE but it's
  243.                      not neccessary unless your database is corrupted or
  244.                      you need to re-index your database.
  245.  
  246.   8.  If you are running regular or universal Allfix for other BBS software
  247.       you may want to change the color of your Allfix to the regular color
  248.       by selecting System Data, then Miscellaneous, then ASETUP colors, 
  249.       then Homrighausen, and save your setting. Then you should exit
  250.       ASETUP.EXE totally and then restart ASETUP.EXE and you should have
  251.       the regular Allfix setup colors.
  252.       This setup files will come with Wildcat! BBS default color setup and
  253.       you may not like this. If you are running Wildcat! BBS, do nothing!.
  254.  
  255.   9.  For those running universal Allfix for other BBS setup, (not Wildcat!)
  256.       you must first run FCOMP.EXE to import your fileareas from your BBS
  257.       into Allfix database. Below is the help capture by running FCOMP /?

  308. When you run ASETUP.EXE from C:\ALLFIX directory you will get this opening
  309. screen. We will go thru each menu option and in doing so you will also
  310. encounter sub-menus in some of them and we shall go thru those too.
  311. For now, select System Data option above for next screen.

  313. Note: Some options may not be available in this setup if you are using
  314.       an unregistered version of Allfix. To get all the features in
  315.       Allfix, you must register it with the author. 
  316.       The cost is very minimal and you will not regret registering it.

  472. As you can see above, I have matched my FidoNet address node address of
  473. 1:278/111 with Zones 1 to 6 to cover all the FidoNet Zones. And for my
  474. AfroNet Private Network Node address of 101:13/106 I have matched that
  475. address with the Zone of 101. The above are just examples for this setup 
  476. and you will need to replace all this info with your own actual node 
  477. address. It is not important to cover all the 6 Zones in FidoNet, you
  478. can just cover the Zone you want... but it does not hurt to match all
  479. the 6 Zones as seen above.

  552. same as your HUB that you request or get files from or one that you send
  553. files to. Your Uplink is not necessarily your HUB though, in some Network
  554. you can have a central Uplink and a HUB. But most of the time your HUB is
  555. more or less your Uplink. (It may sound confusing to you now but you will
  556. understand as time goes on).
  557. The Node address you see above or used in the documentation is the Planet
  558. Connect address and that is because I get all my files thru Planet Connect
  559. System. You will need to edit this node address number and put your own
  560. HUB address there if you are not using Planet Connect System.
  561. If you are using Planet Connect then you are in luck as most of the 
  562. settings in this documentation has been setup for Planet Connect System.
  563. At any rate just put your HUB address above unless your HUB advised you
  564. that they have a specific Uplink within your Network. Next screen will
  565. show you all the details about this HUB.

  597. Uplink System: This is the address of your HUB or Uplink. Please edit the
  598. above for your correct HUB address. If you are using Planet Connect System
  599. then do nothing, and you should be fine with the above node address.

  601. Areafix Program: This is the name of the filetosser filefix manager that
  602. your HUB is using.. (If you don't know this, then ask your HUB) and this 
  603. is the name you will use to Request fileareas to be turned ON or OFF from 
  604. your HUB system. This is not your echomail Areafix, but this is an 
  605. equivalent of it for Fileechos.
  606.  
  607. Password: This is the password given to you by your HUB and this password
  608. will mostly also be in the .TIC files that comes with your files.
  609. The password of PCSYS you see above is the password being used on Planet
  610. Connect System for their Nodes and on all their .TIC files, so if you are 
  611. using Planet Connect then leave that alone. For everyone else, ask your
  612. HUB for your respective password.
  613.  
  614. Add + Prefix: This could be YES or NO based on how your HUB is configured.
  615. But setting this to YES will be a good and recommended idea and will not 
  616. hurt your settings.
  617.  
  618. Authorized Groups: This is the range of Groups that this system will be
  619. allowed or permitted to get files from or will be linked to.
  620. If you press enter key on this option, you will see a pop-up screen
  621. showing all your predefined Groups, and you will press your spacebar to
  622. toggle or enable or disable the Groups you want this HUB to have access.
  623. You will use space bar to toggle each individual groups. But remember
  624. the Groups MUST first be defined before you can have any Group to select.
  625. We shall cover procedure to create or define Groups in some screens to come.
  626. Next screen will also show you the pop-up menu for selecting your Groups.

  628. Unconditional: Forward all requests to this uplink, as long as the 
  629. requesting system has access to one of the groups. ALLFIX will first look 
  630. in the Areas file (see next option). If the area is listed in that file,
  631. then ALLFIX will use the description from that area as the description 
  632. for the new fileecho (please see the priorities concerning the new
  633. description, explained above). 
  634. This option is only available in the registered version.
  635. If you are receveing your files from Planet Connect, you should set this
  636. option to No as seen above since you are receiving all the files from
  637. the satellite with no Uplink involved. But if you are a not using Planet
  638. Connect satellite system, you may set this this to Yes so that if a node
  639. or downlink under you request an area that is not available on your system
  640. then a request will be forwarded to your Uplink to turn the area ON.

  642. Areas Filename: This is the filename of the fileecho list that contains 
  643. the listings of all the fileareas that will be available with this Uplink 
  644. or HUB. 
  645. Generally this is the file that comes out weekly called FILEBONE.NA
  646. for FidoNet Filebone. If this setup is for your Private Network then you
  647. will put the appropriate filename of the fileecho area lists of that Network
  648. in this option. For your Private Network it is better to make sure this file 
  649. conform to FILEBONE.NA format.

  654. Origin Address: This is your node address that you will use to receive

  727. BBS Path: This is your Wildcat! home directory where your MAKEWILD.DAT
  728. resides. If you are using this documentation with universal Allfix for 
  729. other BBS setup then this will be "Msg Path" which means message path
  730. for your BBS.

  732. Netmail: This is the netmail path or directory you have specified in your 
  733. Frontend Mailer setup either in Frontdoor, Intermail, or any other mailer 
  734. you are using. Make sure you put the correct path here... look in your

  736. change it to your specific Mailer's netmail directory.

  738. Netmail Out: If you are using Frontdoor or Intermail, you should leave this

  764. for both, but some Mailers does support both. In your Frontdoor and
  765. Intermail setup, this option is only one named "Packets" under your mailer

  768. TIC Paths: This is the directory where all your outgoing .TIC files
  769. created by Allfix will be located. These .TIC files will be passed
  770. along to your downlinks that gets files from you if you have any, or
  771. to your HUB or Uplink if you are sending files to those systems.
  772. .TIC files are the small description files that will accompany your
  773. actual files which will describe each files for the other system
  774. filetosser. (A sample .TIC file is at the end of this setup documentation
  775. and also in your Allfix documentation manual for your reference.)

  777. Queue Path: This is the directory where all your actual outgoing files 
  778. going to your downlinks or HUB will be located. And each file in this
  779. file will have a matching .TIC that describe it and the areas tagname
  780. where they belong. The corresponding .TIC files will be located in the

  782. to your Downlink or HUB will be deleted from this directory.)

  837. This is another screen where you will need to define paths and directories.
  838. Selecting Filenames option from the Main menu will get you this screen.

  840. Alias: This is the location and filename of your ALIAS or Magic List name
  841. that your Frontend Mailer uses, sample above is for my FD setup, please look 
  842. in your Mailer's setup for proper filename and location.

  844. Log file: This is the directory and filename that you want Allfix to create
  845. for its log for and all activity it performs. Leave it as seen above.

  847. Mgr Log: This is the log file that will be created for File manager when
  848. a Node requests an ADD or DROP of fileecho areas or any form of Area manager
  849. maintenance on your system...
  850.  
  851. Unwanted: This is the path and filename that lists all of the files that
  852. you do not intend to allow into your system. Above is the sample filename
  853. from my Transcan utility. Basically, the contents of this file should just
  854. list each filename on each and separate line. When allfix is tossing files
  855. to your system and it comes across any filename listed in that file it will
  856. not be processed or tossed to your system.
  857. Note: I use Transcan to process all ny BBS uploaded file and Transcan has
  858. a file you can define for unwanted files, so I have used that above as an
  859. example. You can use or define any filename you want for this.
  860.  
  861. Wanted: This is the file that Allfix will add to each archive it processed.
  862. This could be your BBS advertisement file. Make sure the file does exist
  863. in the path specified, if you do not want any file to be added to the
  864. processed files received then leave this option blank.
  865.  
  866. Semaphore: This is the location, path and filename of your mailers
  867. semaphore file. Semaphore files are used by Mailers to keep track of when
  868. netmail folders should be rescan to check if any new mail has been entered.
  869. If you are using Frontdoor v2.02 or v2.12 the semaphore will be located
  870. in the FD main directory usually C:\FD and the filename is always 
  871. FDRESCAN.NOW so for Frontdoor setup put: C:\FD\FDRESCAN.NOW if you are 
  872. using Frontdoor v2.20x.mL Commercial Multi-line then you can define a
  873. special and common directory for your semaphore files e.g. 
  874. C:\FD\SEMA\FDRESCAN.NOW.
  875. And if you are using Intermail, the semaphore can either be located in the
  876. Intermail main directory or your \SYSTEM directory or a specified directory
  877. defined in your Intermail setup, so check your Intermail setup to see which
  878. directory you have defined for your Semaphores, possible locations may be
  879. C:\IM\ or C:\IM\SYSTEM\ or if specially custom defined it could be C:\IM\SEMA\
  880. but the filename for the Semaphore can ONLY be one which will be IMRESCAN.NOW    
  881. so base on the above example it could be: C:\IM\IMRESCAN.NOW or
  882. C:\IM\SYSTEM\IMRESCAN.NOW or even C:\IM\SEMA\IMRESCAN.NOW. 
  883. Look in your Frontdoor and Intermail setup for your proper semaphore location.

  885. other type of Frontend Mailer, please look for your appropriate semaphore

  938. This is where you will define all the compression method and virus scanner
  939. you intend to support. It is a wise idea to have all the compression 
  940. utilities in a directory specified in your path. Having all the compression
  941. utilities means you will be prepared for any type of archived files that
  942. may arrive at your system. All the options above should work for everyone
  943. in a normal circumstances unless you really need to change them... 
  944. I advised you to leave them at default until you know what you are doing.

  946. The SCAN line is where you will define the Virus Scanner you intend to use
  947. to scan all the files arriving at your system for virus. Most people use
  948. SCAN.EXE by McAfee. I personally use McAfee Virus Scanner v2.x and the 
  949. above command line works very well. Make sure you have the Virus utility
  950. directory in your path also.

  1010. extended memory.

  1032.  
  1033. This is where you will tell Allfix what kind of Mailer or log file and other
  1034. settings to use as seen above.
  1035. If you are using Frontdoor or Intermail, then all the settings above should 
  1036. be correct for you except the "UTC Offset" options which is the GMT Time Zone
  1037. in your area, this is always different based on which geographical location 
  1038. on earth you are located. This setting is not really that important anyway..
  1039. but the -5 you see above is for Eastern Standard Time in USA.
  1040. If you are using Intermail Mailer, then you MUST use the same settings for
  1041. Frontdoor as seen above. Intermail and Frontdoor uses the same format.
  1042. If you are using any other type of Frontend Mailer, then you should highlight
  1043. each option for Mailer and press your ENTER key to circle thru the Mailers
  1044. until you reach your specific mailer name. If you mailer is not listed then
  1045. you can select any mailer close or compatible to it.

  1105. settings as seen above so that you can see everything Allfix does when
  1106. it tosses or process your files. This log file can get bigger in no time,
  1107. so you can delete it very often and Allfix will always create a new one
  1108. when it's executed.

  1110. You do not need to turn ON the Debug option unless you are having problem
  1111. that you need to diagnose. Leave the Debug option set to No. If you set 
  1112. this option to Yes then your log file will get even bigger than normal and
  1113. this can waste your precious disk space...

  1208.  
  1209. One of the options above is where you will define what is called FILEFIND.
  1210. To get to this screen just select FileFind System from the main menu.
  1211. To have this option installed, you must also have the echomail area with
  1212. echo tagname of FILEFIND installed on your board and defined in your mail 
  1213. tosser. FILEFIND echo mail area tagname is located in the FidoNet echomail 
  1214. filelist called FIDONET.NA or now called BACKBONE.NA and you must already 
  1215. setup this echomail on your BBS and mail tosser.
  1216. The use of a FILEFIND area is that, a user on your board or another sysetm
  1217. can write a message addressed to ALLFIX on the TO: line, and on the Subject 
  1218. line of the message should be the search word to be used in searching or 
  1219. finding the files desired from all the boards or systems that also have 
  1220. FILEFIND echomail area and fileecho enabled.
  1221. The search word on the subject line MUST be prefixed with a forward slash (/)
  1222. example: SUBJECT: /FRONTDOOR this will try to search and find any system 
  1223. that match the search word or filename of FRONTDOOR in their file 
  1224. descriptions or the actual filename on their system. I may not be making 
  1225. a clear or good sense of this explanations but as you continue to use and 
  1226. understand this features everything will come to you naturally...
  1227. For now select the first option on this menu "FileFind Msg Area" for next
  1228. screen, so that we may define the BBS conference area where this FILEFIND
  1229. messages will be posted and the replies be located... as being setup on
  1230. your system from FIDONET.NA or BACKBONE.NA.

  1275. need to decide which echo type your BBS uses and you can select that as
  1276. appropriate for your system... the sample above is for Wildcat! BBS setup.

  1278. Reply: Normally this should be setup to the same conference number as 
  1279. seen in SCAN option above, so you can leave this blank and Allfix will
  1280. automatically use the same conference as specified in "Scan" above.

  1283. Origin: This is the origin line you want Allfix to append to any message 
  1284. it may generate.. use the sample above and modify for your system.

  1286. Use AKA: This should be your Node address you are using for this setup.

  1289. the list of pop-up templates file list.

  1291. Files: Leave this at 0 (zero) for better settings which will mean to use
  1292. the default of 15. See your Allfix documentation for more explanations.

  1294. searching of FILEFIND that will be included in the reply message.
  1295. File searching on your board can take quite a long time to scan thru all
  1296. the allowed fileareas for FILEFIND, so you may want to limit this to the

  1321. format. If you are using other type of BBS with universal Allfix, then 
  1322. select either the *.MSG format or any option that matches your BBS echomail
  1323. area.. I am not familiar with all the BBS settings on this....

  1325. Conf#: This is the conference number that you have previously defined for
  1326. FILEFIND messages on your BBS as previously explained. Please make sure
  1327. you look at the specific conference number in your BBS setup to make sure, 
  1328. as you don't want any messages from this area being exported to another 
  1329. conference. 
  1330. (If running Wildcat! BBS, you can run MAKEWILD.EXE to look at the 
  1331. conference number). Please change the conference number above to reflect
  1332. your actual BBS or system conference setup.

  1366. screen you will get this sample screen above. You will get a pop-up screen
  1367. listingss of all your previously defined fileareas on your BBS.
  1368. (If you are running universal Allfix, you must first run FCOMP.EXE to
  1369. import your fileareas from your BBS into Allfix database, but for Wildcat!
  1370. BBS setup, you do not have to run FCOMP or do anything). For your specific
  1371. BBS FCOMP command parameter, please look in the Allfix documentation or
  1372. run FCOMP /? for help.
  1373. When you get the pop-up list of your fileareas, you will then use your 
  1374. spacebar key to toggle the areas that you want Allfix to scan for Filefind 
  1375. messages keyword searches, you can also use F2 to select all the fileareas 
  1376. but this is not advisable because Allfix takes very long time to scan 
  1377. your fileareas for the FILEFIND searches because it has to go thru every 
  1378. file and its descriptions looking for the keyword to match. 
  1379. SO LIMIT YOUR FILES AREAS to FILEFIND. You can also use F2 to deselect all 
  1380. the fileareas and then use your spacebar to toggle each individual file 
  1381. area that you want to include or exclude... Any filearea with a check mark 
  1382. means it's included.

  1384. Note or Warning: I will advise you not to select many fileareas for
  1385. FILEFIND as processing the FILEFIND keyword searches by Allfix does
  1386. take some very long time to complete. Experiment and see which is better

  1409.  
  1410. Selecting Fileecho System option from the main menu will get you this screen.
  1411. Now be prepared, this where you will spend most of your time for this setup.
  1412. There are about 1,070 fileecho areas already imported into this settings
  1413. from the FidoNet FILEBONE.NA, FILEBONE.NA and also from the Planet Connect
  1414. System specific fileareas with filename SATELITE.NA also included.
  1415. You will need to go thru each fileecho area one by one (individually) to 
  1416. toggle the areas you want and tell Allfix where to import those files, 
  1417. and also all the areas you do not want are to be marked as "Pass-Thru" 
  1418. which means no file from that areas will ever be imported into your system 
  1419. but any of your node or downlink getting files from you can still get files 
  1420. from this areas, you can also at a later time change the status of 
  1421. "Pass-Thru" whenever you want then imported into your system...
  1422.  
  1423. I have taken my time to import all the fileecho areas in FILEBONE.NA,
  1424. FILEBONE.NO, and SATELITE.NA into this setup to make things easy.
  1425. The fileecho areas in this my setup is as current as of writing of this
  1426. documentation. And you can always update the areas as the new FILEBONE.NA,
  1427. and FILEBONE.NO are being released. I will discuss the process for 
  1428. importing the updates of those files at the end of this documentation.
  1429. Most of the settings here should work for all BBS except that you MUST
  1430. change the Destination option to match or suit your own specific
  1431. BBS filearea setup. I will explain this in the screens to come.
  1432.  
  1433. NOTE: You must go thru all the fileecho areas one by one and individually
  1434. to customize or change what needed to be changed as this varies from
  1435. system to system setup because this will require your drive letters and 
  1436. sub-directories names specific to your system. This is very important.
  1437. You will see what I am talking about in the next screen which you will use
  1438. as a sample guide for each of your fileecho area setup.

  1465. Note: All the settings in the "Dest" option has been changed to default
  1466. of C:\ALLFIX\AUTO-ADD\ directory and you will need to change each fileecho
  1467. area to match your BBS filearea path specific settings.
  1468.  
  1469. When you select "Fileecho Manager" from the previous menu screen you will
  1470. get this similar screen as the above for each fileecho area that you have
  1471. imported into your Allfix database. I will tell you on each option which
  1472. needed to be changed and which you should leave alone... If you need to
  1473. see all the listings of Fileecho areas imported into your Allfix database
  1474. you can press F5 key to list them and select which ever you want to edit,
  1475. but I will advise you to start from the beginning which is #1 and then use
  1476. your right side cursor key to move to the next one after you have saved
  1477. the one you are working on... The settings you have here are very important
  1478. because this is the heart of your setup and you will need to go thru each
  1479. area one by one to select the one you need to import into your BBS by 
  1480. highlighting the option with "Desc" and then press F6 key to select the
  1481. desired file area that the fileecho area will be imported, and also
  1482. any fileecho area that you do not intend to import to your BBS should
  1483. be marked "Pass-Through" by highlighting "Advanced" option or by pressing
  1484. F3 key on this screen and then toggle"Pass through" to YES with your ENTER 
  1485. key and then save it... 
  1486. I will explain all the options below to my best knowledge for more clearity.
  1487.  
  1488. Tag: This is this fileecho tagname as listed in the FILEBONE.NA or 
  1489. FILEBONE.NO or SATELITE.NA and as imported into your Allfix database.
  1490. Do not edit anything here, as all this tagname should have been automatically
  1491. imported when you imported the above files. No adjustment is needed here.
  1492.  
  1493. Desc: This is the description of this fileecho area as listed in FILEBONE.NA,
  1494. FILEBONE.NO or SATELITE.NA and as imported to your Allfix database.
  1495. No nned to edit anything here...
  1496.  
  1497. Dest: This is the path or directory of your BBS file area that files 
  1498. arriving in this fileecho will be tossed. YOU MUST EDIT THIS OPTION.
  1499. First press Enter key to edit this fileecho area, then highlight this "Desc"
  1500. option and press F6 key and all your previously defined fileareas in 
  1501. your BBS setup (if Wildcat! BBS - MAKEWILD.EXE) will pop-up as seen
  1502. on next screen, you will then highlight and select the desired area
  1503. where you want the file in this areas to be imported, and then press
  1504. ENTER key to accept it. When you come back to this screen, you should
  1505. see the path and sub-directory of the fileareas as you have defined
  1506. in your BBS setup appeared here (e.g. Dest  G:\FILES4\FDN-BUS\).
  1507. You should make sure the path here is correct because if this is wrong 
  1508. then your files will be tossed to wrong filearea on your BBS or it may 
  1509. not get tossed at all.
  1510. YOU MUST EDIT THIS OPTION FOR ALL THE FILEECHOs here one by one.
  1511. All the settings in this option has been changed to default of
  1512. C:\ALLFIX\AUTO-ADD\ directory and you will need to change each 
  1513. fileecho area to match your BBS filearea path specific settings.
  1514.  
  1515. Note: If you are setting this fileecho area as Pass-Through then you do 
  1516. not need to match this area to any of your BBS filearea, as any fileecho 
  1517. marked as "Pass-Through" will not be imported into your BBS file areas.
  1518.  
  1519. Note: If you do not want a specific fileecho area to be imported to your
  1520. BBS, you will need to mark those areas as "Pass-Through" in the Advanced
  1521. option as I will explained below.
  1522.  
  1523. Group: This is the Group area for this fileecho area. You should not do
  1524. anything here as this has been automatically imported here for you.
  1525.  
  1526. Use Aka: You should leave this as "Aka Matching" and let Allfix match
  1527. it for you or you can use your specific Node address here (e.g. 1:278/111)
  1528. but it's recommended to be left at "Aka Matching" if not set at that
  1529. then change it to "Aka Matching" for best result.
  1530.  
  1531. Template & Banner: I do not have any Templates or Banners for each fileecho
  1532. areas on my setup here...as I personally see them as an excess baggage added
  1533. to the file size. But if you need to add template and Banner to all your
  1534. fileecho areas while you are editing them, you can just highlight either
  1535. of them and and press ENTER key and you will get a pop-up lists of all
  1536. the Templates and Banners files and you can select the appropriate one
  1537. for the desired fileecho. The settings here is your choice.
  1538.  
  1539. Advanced: While you are at each of the fileecho screen you can use F3 key
  1540. to get to this option, or you can highlight the "Advanced" and press ENTER.
  1541. As explained previously, you can use this option to mark any fileecho area
  1542. as "Pass-Through" if you don't want the files received in this area 
  1543. imported into your BBS fileareas, but if you have any downlink nodes they 
  1544. will still be able to get their files from this area.
  1545. The next two pages/screen will show you how the settings in this option
  1546. look like and I will give you more explanation on the "Pass-Through" there.
  1547. There are more options apart from Pass-Through when you highlight this
  1548. option and press enter key and those options can be used to modify some
  1549. specific settings that will affect this fileecho area. You may not need
  1550. to change any setting on this option except the "Pass-Through" settings,
  1551. because most of the default will work perfect but if you do need to change
  1552. something, you know where to come.
  1553. If you need to mark a fileecho area as "Pass-Through" just press enter here
  1554. and then highlight the Pass-Through option on the pop-up screen and then
  1555. press ENTER key to set it to YES. Any fileecho you do not want imported to 
  1556. your BBS should be set to YES as explained. But be careful not to set the 
  1557. areas you want on your BBS as Pass-Through as the files in this area will 
  1558. not be imported if the areas with Pass-Through is set to YES. 
  1559. If you want the  files in this areas to be imported into your BBS then set 
  1560. the "Pass-Through" option to NO. As you can see, I have made a lot of 
  1561. repetitive statements above, why? because this option is very important...
  1562.  
  1563. Systems: This is your HUB or any of your downlink node address.
  1564. You must have at least your HUB address defined here. If you are using
  1565. Planet Connect Satellite System, then the above address will be good for
  1566. you as I do also use the Planet Connect Systems for my file receipts,
  1567. you do not have to edit the node address.... But if you are not using
  1568. Planet Connect then you must edit this option to put your HUB Node
  1569. address that you will be receiving your files from.
  1570. To make your life easier, you can use the Global option to globally
  1571. change the HUB node address in one run for all the fileechos.
  1572. Note: YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST YOUR HUB NODE ADDRESS DEFINED HERE !!!!!!!!!

  1574. For better performance, leave all the other settings the way you see them 
  1575. above. If you need to change anything you can use Global option to change 
  1576. the whole fileecho areas in one shot or you can select each individual
  1577. fileecho area to be changed and modify it... 
  1578. Global option settings is not recommended for Tag, Desc, Dest, and 
  1579. Group settings. Make sure you go thru all your fileecho areas one by one
  1580. to be sure they are setup correctly, because if the settings here are
  1581. not correct then your file tossing will not be successful, especially the
  1582. directory path in the "Desc" option.

  1611. When you select "Dest" which actually means Destinations of files received
  1612. in this fileecho areas, you will get the sample above screen. This is the
  1613. list of all my pre-defined fileareas setup in my Wildcat! BBS thru MAKEWILD.
  1614. If you are using the regular or universal Allfix version, your fileareas from
  1615. your BBS should have been imported like the above when you run FCOMP.EXE.
  1616. You must already have defined all the fileareas in your BBS setup before you 
  1617. can see any filearea listings here.
  1618. When you get the above pop-up screen, you will then select the fileareas
  1619. that you want for this fileecho area and then press ENTER key to accept it.
  1620. When you return to the fileecho menu you will see that the path you have
  1621. defined in your BBS for that filearea will be imported into the Allfix
  1622. automatically as seen in the previous screen (e.g. Dest  G:\FILES4\FDN-BUS\)

  1624. Note: If you are setting this fileecho area as Pass-Through then you do 
  1625. not have match this area to any of your BBS filearea, as any fileecho 
  1626. marked as "Pass-Through" will not be imported into your BBS file areas.

  1655. The archive format to convert incoming files to
  1656.  
  1657. If you select "Advanced" option from the fileecho area manager and press
  1658. ENTER key or just press F3 key on that menu you will get this pop-up screen
  1659. to selectively adjust or or modify any area settings you may want for this
  1660. particular fileecho area, any setting you change here will only affect
  1661. this particular fileecho area and not the others unless you use a Global
  1662. option to modify any of the settings here.
  1663. All the options above as I have adjusted them are best suited for normal
  1664. operations and for all BBS types, unless you see anything you want to
  1665. personally change to reflect your personal taste or preference.
  1666.  
  1667. Some of the options you may want to change are: Convert, Convert all,
  1668. Convert inc, Compress unknown, and Pass-Through. (I will explain below)
  1669. All others may not need editing unless you need to, and if you do need 
  1670. to change anything, then refer to Allfix manual/doc for more information 
  1671. on each options.
  1672.  
  1673. Convert: I use ZIP compressor on my BBS as default compression and all
  1674. files are converted to ZIP format when they arrived at my board/system.
  1675. If you are using other compressor apart from ZIP as your default compressor
  1676. then you need to change this option to your desired compressor format.
  1677.  
  1678. Convert all: If you want all files to be converted and recompress then
  1679. then set this to YES, that means even files already in ZIP format will be
  1680. re-ZIPPED or recompressed but since that will be a waste of time as the
  1681. files are already in the format that I wanted them (ZIP) no recompress
  1682. should be necessary so I have set this option to NO above. 
  1683. Your choice or preference may differ here... exercise your right. :)
  1684.  
  1685. Convert inc:  If you want to compress a compressed file that also has
  1686. a compressed inside it then set this to YES. I suggest you set this to NO
  1687. because recompressing a compressed files inside a compressed archive can
  1688. damage the archive file sometimes... Better set this to NO as seen above.
  1689.  
  1690. Compress unknown: If you want any unknown or uncompressed files to be
  1691. converted and compressed to your default compress format then set this
  1692. to Yes otherwise set this to NO. I recommend setting this to NO, so that
  1693. those files archive already compressed as *.EXE coming to your system
  1694. will not be recompressed and named to .ZIP.
  1695.  
  1696. Pass-Through: This is an important setting here. The only time you need to
  1697. set this option to YES is if you do not want any files in this fileecho
  1698. area to be imported into your BBS, but any file coming into this fileecho
  1699. area can still be passed on to your downlinks if you have any attached to
  1700. this fileecho area. For those of you using Planet Connect Satellite System
  1701. that receives all the files from satellite in bulk, you can set all the 
  1702. unwanted areas to Yes (Pass-Through) so that when you later run Allfix
  1703. with command line parameter of MGR (e.g. ALLFIX MGR), Allfix will 
  1704. automatically delete, clean or vaporize all the unwanted files in that
  1705. particular fileecho areas that has no downlink attached to it.
  1706.  
  1707. To my personal experience based on my settings here, all the other settings
  1708. above are best left as seen them above unless you really need to change
  1709. anything that is specific to your system setup.
  1710.  
  1711. Note: Make sure you go thru all your fileecho areas and to make sure you 
  1712. have correct settings, especially to adjust or modify the "Dest" option
  1713. as that option has all been set to C:\ALLFIX\AUTO-ADD\ and this will need 
  1714. to be changed to match your actual file areas path according to your BBS
  1715. settings.

  1738. If you have already defined your HUB information in the Node Manager
  1739. settings and toggled the echo areas that belongs or accessible to this
  1740. HUB, you will get this sample screen when you highlight and press ENTER
  1741. key on the "Systems" option.
  1742. If this is a new setup, then you will get the next screen. You can still
  1743. get the next screen to modify or view this option by highlighting the
  1744. Node address from the pop-up screen above that says "Systems List".
  1745. See next screen for the options on that menu, you will later see how to
  1746. define your HUB or Node info later in this setup. You may leave the option
  1747. "Systems" alone until you have defined your HUB or Node info in the
  1748. Node Manager setup menu.

  1750. Note: If you look at the small pop-up screen above under "Status", you 
  1751. will notice that it has -R-S-- and the HUB/Node address, that means this
  1752. HUB or Node has been marked or setup for Receiving files from this system
  1753. and also to Send files to this system.

  1755.   R  means Files will be Received from this system
  1756.   S  means Files will also be Send to this system
  1757.  
  1758. Normally, if you are not sending files to your HUB system in this fileecho
  1759. area, you should not have the S for Send files selected.
  1760. But you should have S for Send files selected for all your Downlink since
  1761. you will be sending files to them. I hope this is clear enough.

  1786. When you select "Systems" option from each of the imported fileecho area
  1787. you will get this screen for you to enter your HUB or Downlink Node
  1788. information and their characteristics.
  1789.  
  1790. Node Address: This is the address of your HUB or downlink as defined in
  1791. the Node Manager setup.
  1792.  
  1793. Sysop: This is the name of that System Operator as defined in the Node
  1794. Manager setup, or the name Sysop should just be enough.
  1795.  
  1796. Send Files: This is a Yes or No answer. If you will be sending or hatching
  1797. files to this node address then you will have YES here but if this is your
  1798. HUB or Node and you are ONLY receiving files from that system without 
  1799. sending him/her any files, then you will need to set this to NO. 
  1800. Note: As you can see above, I have this option set to NO because I do not
  1801. send files to Planet Connect.
  1802.  
  1803. Pause under Send Files: This is a Yes or No toggle to temporarily disable 
  1804. sending of files to this system. 
  1805.  
  1806. Receive Files: This is a Yes or No answer. If you will be receiving files 
  1807. from this node address then you will have YES here but if this is your
  1808. HUB or Node and you are ONLY sending files to this system without 
  1809. receiving any files from this system, then you will need to set this to NO.
  1810. In most cases this option will always need to be set to YES for your HUB.
  1811.  
  1812. PreRelease: This field determines if this system should receive prereleased
  1813. files before the official release date as specified in the external hatch 
  1814. manager.
  1815.  
  1816. Mandatory: This field determines if this system is allowed  to disconnect
  1817. this fileecho via the AreaMgr. If this field is set to YES, ALLFIX will 
  1818. also not allow a node to set this area to inactive.
  1819.  
  1820. Msg Status: This field determines the message status of all outgoing
  1821. files. If the option "Setup" is selected, then the message status, 
  1822. as specified in the Node manager, is used. All the other options override 
  1823. the settings in the Node manager.
  1824. You should always set this to "Setup" as seen above so that Allfix will 
  1825. read it's settings for the Message Status you have previously defined.

  1848.  
  1849. This is where you will setup your fileecho options. The above settings are
  1850. best to my knowledge and this is how I have been using it successfully here
  1851. on my BBS setup. So make sure you have above screen setup as you see it for
  1852. better performance... (personal opinion)
  1853. Note: If you are using 4DOS command processor, you can set the option with
  1854. "Update DESCRIPT.ION" setting to Yes. I only use MS-DOS here so I have
  1855. mine set to NO. Please look in the Allfix documentation manual for more
  1856. information if you want to use this option.

  1876. When you select Hatch Manager from the Fileecho System Menu you will get this
  1877. screen. This is where you will tell Allfix the areas to hatch files from.
  1878. Hatching in a simple word that means sending files out from your system to
  1879. another system. For example let's say you are a Network CoOrdinator (NC)
  1880. of a Private Network and you need to send weekly Nodediff or Nodelist to 
  1881. the member of your Net, then you can define an area as seen in sample above.
  1882. The sample above is just one of the areas that I use to hatch out files
  1883. for our AfroNet Network, you may delete the above area if you don't need it
  1884. or change it to match your system if you need it. 
  1885. Explanation of each settings follows:
  1886.  
  1887. Area: This is the fileecho area tagname as seen in the FILEBONE.NA or any
  1888. of your Private Network fileecho file listings. This area should have been
  1889. imported into your Allfix Fileecho database.
  1890.  
  1891. Spec: The path or location and filename of the file. This is the file
  1892. specification of the file to be hatched out.
  1893.  
  1894. Desc: The description for this file that will be inserted in the outgoing
  1895. .TIC file.
  1896.  
  1897. Days: The day of the week you want the files to be hatched out. 
  1898. Pressing ENTER key here will you a pop-up list of Days to select.
  1899.  
  1900. Repl: This field contains the file specification that the newly hatched 
  1901. file should replace. The file specification entered in this field will 
  1902. be removed from the file database. It will also be included in the 
  1903. .TIC file and it will be deleted from the file databases of the downlink 
  1904. systems. This particular option is useful to replace old programs versions 
  1905. with new ones. If the file specification entered in this field does not
  1906. contain wildcard, then ALLFIX will automatically enter the name of the
  1907. current file being hatched in this field. That means that the next time 
  1908. a file is hatched, the replace field will contain the name of the 
  1909. previously hatched file. 
  1910.  
  1911. Mgic: This is the magicname name for this file that will be used for your
  1912. Mailer's FREQ list. This field contains the magic name that should be added
  1913. to the alias file. The string entered here will also be included in the .TIC
  1914. file and it will be added to the alias files for all the downlink systems, 
  1915. if the option is enabled at those systems.

  1933. When you select "Magic Filenames" from the Fileecho system menu you will get
  1934. this screen. There are various things you can do with different setup here.
  1935. If you highlight "Type" and press enter you will see several options and
  1936. commands that Allfix will execute based on which of the option you select.
  1937. The sample above copies the filename BACKBONE.NA, BACKBONE.NO whenever 
  1938. I receive new copy into my mail tosser echolist directory to update the 
  1939. old copy. You can have different and many setup here based on what you 
  1940. intend to do.
  1941.  
  1942. Type: This is the type of commands you want Allfix to execute or the action
  1943. you want Allfix to take for this setup. Press ENTER key on this option for
  1944. a list of all the list. Please refer to Allfix documentation for more 
  1945. information or understanding of each option. (See next screen for list
  1946. of all supported Actions)
  1947.  
  1948. File Mask: Because in the sample above, I choose "Copy File" option,
  1949. Allfix needs to know which filename to copy, so I have used the BACKBONE.*
  1950. filename with the wildcard (*) to cover any filename that matched BACKBONE
  1951. and with any extension...
  1952.  
  1953. From Area: This is the area tagname that the above files (BACKBONE.*) will
  1954. be located, hence I have put the area BACKBONE, this must correspond to
  1955. the fileecho area name you have defined or imported into Allfix fileecho
  1956. Manager database earlier in this setup and as seen in your FILEBONE.NA or
  1957. FILEBONE.NO or any of your Private Network fileecho area listings.
  1958.  
  1959. Directory: This is the destination directory where you want Allfix to 
  1960. copy this file.
  1961.  
  1962. Note: You can define as many option as you wish in this setup. 
  1963. I just showed you two examples to get you going and to give you a brief 
  1964. understanding of this option. See next screen for all the options you
  1965. can use in "Type" settings. My second example will show you how to
  1966. execute any batch file or for example your NODEDIFF.BAT (if you have any) 
  1967. as soon as your weekly NODEDIFF comes into your system. 
  1968. You can disable or delete any of this setting if you do not need them,
  1969. they are not required for operation of Allfix but just for our tutorial
  1970. purposes.

  1999. can use based on what you intend to do with this setting, you will need to
  2000. select one type of action that you want Allfix to perform for this setup.

  2021. This is the second example of the previous setting. This sample above will
  2022. run or execute NODEDIFF.BAT to process or compile your Nodelist anytime
  2023. a new weekly NODEDIFF arrives on your system and detected by Allfix in the
  2024. area tagname BACKBONE. You must make sure the NODEDIFF.BAT exists in the
  2025. specified directory.
  2026. As you can see, the "Type" command has now being changed to "ExecCommand"
  2027. which actually means to execute command which in this case is the
  2028. NODEDIFF.BAT.  So if a new Nodediff file arrives in the defined fileecho
  2029. area named BACKBONE then NODEDIFF.BAT will be executed and when finished
  2030. returned to Allfix operation.
  2031. Simply the content of my NODEDIFF.BAT copies the new NODEDIFF.A* to my
  2032. Mailer's Nodelist directory, unarchive/unpack it, runs my Nodediff merger
  2033. utility, and then run my Mailer's command (FDNC /F) to compile the new
  2034. Nodelist. (By the way, at the moment, I run Frontdoor v2.20c.mL, which 
  2035. is the commercial and multi-line version).

  2059. When you select Group Manager from the "Fileecho System" menu you will get
  2060. this screen. This is where you will define all the fileecho Groups you want.
  2061. Above screen is a sample Group for the local filearea on my board where I
  2062. put all my FREE downloadable files. This and the second Group will not be 
  2063. listed in the regular FILEBONE.* files.
  2064. In the next screen, I will also show you sample screen from the FILEBONE.*
  2065. file that I have defined in this setup documentation and give you some
  2066. details or explanations on some options.
  2067. I have created or defined all the Groups you will need from FILEBONE.NA and
  2068. FILEBONE.NO, so most of the work has been done for you,  you may want to
  2069. browse through all the Groups to get familiar or to see how they have been
  2070. defined and to get some understandings of the settings.
  2071.  
  2072. Group 0 and Group 1 are local Groups created for my board and may not be
  2073. needed on your board. If you need them, just modify/change them to match 
  2074. your System settings or you can just leave them alone until later.
  2075.  
  2076. Note: If you look at Group# 90 for "Planet Connect System Files" you will
  2077. see that it is not listed in the FILEBONE.NA or FILEBONE.NO. This is a
  2078. specific file area coming from Planet Connect and are not in the above
  2079. files, so I have created a fileecho list file for them named SATELITE.NA
  2080. which is also included in this archive.

  2107. Here is a real example of Group definition from FILEBONE.NA, this is
  2108. Group #5 and the name I used for this Group is called "Weekly FidoNews and
  2109. Nodediff" as seen in the FILEBONE.NA (Take a look at the that file to see).
  2110.  
  2111. Group: This is the Group number and this will automatically be there when
  2112. you define a Group in Allfix. The number is generated by Allfix.
  2113.  
  2114. Name: This is the description name to be used for this Group. Look in the
  2115. FILEBONE file to see how I get all the description for each Group.
  2116.  
  2117. Mask: This is a very important option. This will tell Allfix on how or
  2118. which areas Mask to use for importing the fileecho areas into this Group.
  2119. The Mask means any fileecho area that matches COORDUTL (as seen above) in 
  2120. the FILEBONE file will be imported into this Group, the * (asterisks or 
  2121. wildcard) at the end is very important and MUST be there, this means to
  2122. import ALL fileecho areas that match that criteria into this Group.
  2123. Look thru all the Groups I have setup here with F5 (Browse mode key) to
  2124. see all the defined MASK and compare each of the MASKs to each Group
  2125. areas in FILEBONE files to get more understanding how the MASK is defined.
  2126. If you look closely at some of the Group in FILEBONE files you will see
  2127. that some areas does not start with the same Mask search, one of such area
  2128. is the "SDN: International", in this case all you have to do is look for 
  2129. the best most matched and use that, then after you have imported your 
  2130. fileecho list files you can then look for those fileecho areas that are
  2131. not in the proper Group Mask area and change them manually.
  2132. If you look thru the whole Group settings and look at the FILEBONE.* file 
  2133. you will get a good idea of this settings.
  2134.  
  2135. Note: If you take a look at Group #25 you will see that I just used only one
  2136. * (wildcard or asterisk) for the MASK here. This means any fileecho that
  2137. is auto-imported into the Allfix database that does not match any of the
  2138. other Group MASK will be imported into this Group. You should look at
  2139. this Group very often to see if any fileecho area has been auto imported
  2140. here and you should match or change it manually to the proper Group area.
  2141. You will also get this any time you import a new FILEBONE file into your
  2142. Allfix database and there is a new area added and  you forgot to create 
  2143. a Group for it before you do the importation. So you can define the new
  2144. Group and then change the fileecho that belongs to this Group manually. 
  2145. This Group is very useful and important. 
  2146. That is why I have called Group #25 "Auto-Add and Miscellaneous" and you
  2147. will not find this area in the FILEBONE files. (YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD !!)
  2148.  
  2149. Desc: This should the descriptive name to be used to identify this Group.
  2150.  
  2151. Dest: You do not need to specify the destination or your BBS filearea here
  2152. because if you do, this will affect all the files coming from this Group
  2153. to be tossed to the same fileareas. I am sure you do not want to mix
  2154. Communications programs with BBS Doors programs or Windows programs.
  2155. So this is why it's best to define your destination for each fileecho
  2156. areas in the Fileecho Manager setup as recommended in the earlier screens.
  2157. So you should do this in your Fileecho manager setup but not here...
  2158.  
  2159. Use AKA: This should be your Node address to be used for this Group.
  2160.  
  2161. Advanced: This is where you can set some options globally to affect this
  2162. setup. If you press your ENTER key here, you will get a pop-up screen
  2163. similar to the one I explained to you in the Fileecho Manager setup earlier.
  2164. If you do not want all the files in this Group to be imported into your BBS
  2165. you can mark the whole Group Pass-Through by highlighting "Pass-Through"
  2166. option and setting it to YES, but remember this will affect all the files
  2167. coming into this Group area. But if you want some of the files in this
  2168. Groups to be imported into your BBS and some of them not to be imported,
  2169. then this option to NO and then you can go into each fileecho area and
  2170. toggle the Pass-Through option individually based on which fileecho you
  2171. want to keep and those you don't want to keep. This setting is also very
  2172. useful for those with Planet Connect Satellite Systems because all the
  2173. fileecho areas comes to their system wheiter they want an area or not.
  2174. Note: The best is to leave "Pass-Through" option here set to NO and then
  2175. go into each fileecho area and set it to whatever you want there.
  2176. You can also use this Advanced setting to change or modify some settings
  2177. for this Group, just press F3 on this screen to see all the options
  2178. that can be changed from Advanced settings.
  2179. I have used the best setting in each Group setup that accompanied this
  2180. tutorial so you may not need to change anything here.
  2181. This Advanced setting is the same as the Advance setting in Fileecho Manager
  2182. that I have previously explained and all the options are the same.
  2183.  
  2184. Systems: This is your HUB or any of your downlink node address.
  2185. You must have at least your HUB address defined here. If you are using
  2186. Planet Connect Satellite System, then the above address will be good for
  2187. you as I also receive all my files from Planet Connect Systems, you do not 
  2188. have to edit the node address.... But if you are not using Planet Connect 
  2189. System then you must edit this option to put your HUB Node address that 
  2190. you will be receiving your files from.
  2191. To make your life easier, you can use the Global option to globally
  2192. change the HUB node address in one run for all the Groups or fileechos.
  2193.  
  2194. You can press your F5 key here which is the Browse key to list all the
  2195. Groups and their Mask settings in a Browse Mode. Try it and see.

  2220. When you select "Systems" option from each of the Group you will get this 
  2221. screen for you to enter your HUB or Downlink Node information and their
  2222. characteristics.
  2223.  
  2224. Node Address: This is the address of your HUB or downlink as defined in
  2225. the Node Manager setup.
  2226.  
  2227. Sysop: This is the name of the System Operator as defined in the Node
  2228. Manager setup, or the word name SysOp should just be enough.
  2229.  
  2230. Send Files: This is a Yes or No answer. If you will be sending or hatching
  2231. files to this node address then you will have YES here, but if this is your
  2232. HUB or Node and you are just receiving files from that system without 
  2233. sending him/her any files, then you will need to set this to NO. 
  2234. Note: As you can see above, I have this option set to NO because I do not
  2235. send files to Planet Connect.
  2236.  
  2237. Pause under Send Files: This is a Yes or No toggle to temporarily disable 
  2238. sending of files to this system. 
  2239.  
  2240. Receive Files: This is a Yes or No answer. If you will be receiving files 
  2241. from this node address then you will have YES here but if this is your
  2242. HUB or Node and you are just sending files to this system without 
  2243. receiving any files from this system, then you will need to set this to NO.
  2244. In most cases this option will always need to be set to YES.
  2245.  
  2246. PreRelease: This field determines if this system should receive prereleased
  2247. files before the official release date as specified in the external hatch 
  2248. manager.
  2249.  
  2250. Mandatory: This field determines if this system is allowed to disconnect
  2251. from this fileecho via the AreaMgr. If this field is turned ON (set to Yes), 
  2252. ALLFIX will also not allow a node to set this area to inactive.
  2253.  
  2254. Msg Status: This field determines the message status of all outgoing
  2255. files. If the option "Setup" is selected, then the message status, 
  2256. as specified in the Node manager, is used. All the other options override 
  2257. the settings in the Node manager.
  2258. It is better to always set this to "Setup" as seen above so that Allfix will 
  2259. read it's settings for the Message Status you have previously defined in
  2260. Node Manager setup.

  2379. you use a Global option to modify any of the settings here.

  2419. If you press F5 for Browse mode from the previous screen for Groups, you 
  2420. will get this screen listing all the Groups I have defined from FILEBONE.NA,
  2421. FILEBONE.NO, and SATELITE.NA (SATELITE.NA for Planet Connect specific files).
  2422. The Groups are correct up until the time this documentation is written.
  2423. You can use your UP and DOWN arrow cursor key to see all the Groups with 
  2424. their respective MASK settings.
  2425.  
  2426. Note: As you can see above, the Groups 0 and 1 are the specific local
  2427. filearea defined for my board, you may delete them if you do not need them,
  2428. but if you need them you can modify them to fit your own BBS setup or you
  2429. can just leave them alone for later until you want to use them... there
  2430. will be no harm done to your setup..
  2431. Groups 2 to 116 are for FidoNet Filebone (FILEBONE.NA and FILEBONE.NO) 
  2432. Group #90 is for Planet Connect Specific Files (SATELITE.NA).
  2433. Group #25 has been defined for "Auto-Add Areas and Miscellaneous", and
  2434. you will not found this in any .NA or .NO files, the file MASK matching 
  2435. for this Group #25 area is just * (asterisks) and that is how it should be
  2436. defined, that means any fileecho that does not match the other define Group
  2437. MASKs criteria will be dumped in this Group and you can just look thru all
  2438. the fileecho dumped in this Group #25 and moved them to their appropriate
  2439. Group, this Group is very useful especially for those that carries the
  2440. entire Filebone either by Satellite or any other means.
  2441.  
  2442. Before you ask me "What is the AUTO-ADD area?" (our Group #25) that I have
  2443. been talking about. I will define it and give you some examples below,
  2444. if this explanation is not enough, then refer to your Allfix documentation
  2445. or Allfix FidoNet echo (Fido Backbone echo tagname ALLFIX_HELP) for more
  2446. help. Here we go:
  2447.  
  2448. When a file from an undefined Group or fileecho area automatically comes 
  2449. to your board or system, Allfix will automatically create and add this
  2450. new fileecho area to your Allfix database and the files for this newly 
  2451. created area will be store in a unique directory matching the fileecho
  2452. area tag-name one level below your defined Auto-Add directory which in
  2453. our case is: C:\ALLFIX\AUTO-ADD\. Now for example let's say a fileecho
  2454. area with tagname NEWFILE comes to our system and we did not have this
  2455. fileecho area defined before, Allfix will automatically add this area 
  2456. to your fileecho setup and then create a directory under your Auto-Add
  2457. directory which will be C:\ALLFIX\AUTO-ADD\NEWFILES\ and all the new
  2458. files that comes in this area will be stored in that directory until
  2459. you move them to the appropriate area, but you must first tell Allfix
  2460. which filearea on your BBS you want the files in this area be tossed,
  2461. you will need to do this thru your Fileecho Manager as explained earlier.
  2462. You will need to run ASETUP.EXE in the Allfix directory and look for
  2463. this new auto-added fileecho area and change it to their appropriate 
  2464. Groups, if this area is in a new Group that was just added to the Fileecho 
  2465. list such as FILEBONE.NA, you must also create a Group for it and also 
  2466. match the Destination "Desc" of this new fileecho area(s) to the filearea
  2467. that you want the files tossed on your BBS filearea setup.
  2468.  
  2469. The "MASK" setting for "Auto-Add Area" as we have defined should only
  2470. just have one * (one asterisks) which means to match all the fileecho areas
  2471. that area not already matched in other Group areas.

  2495. When you select "New File Reports" from the main menu you will get this
  2496. screen. This is where you will define the echo area and or message conference
  2497. where Allfix will create and post a notification message either to you,
  2498. (your system, as seen above) and netmail messages to your downlinks. 
  2499. The second file reports defined on the next screen will be used to send 
  2500. messages to your users in a local public conference you have defined. Please
  2501. do not use any echomail conference such as Fido echomail areas for both
  2502. settings. You should use your netmail conference for your (Sysop) message
  2503. to you and also create a specific public conference for file reports to your
  2504. users and use that for next setting for notification message to your users.
  2505. You must first create the message conference on your BBS and you must also
  2506. already have all your fileareas setup on the BBS.
  2507. You can use the two conferences I have setup here and just modify the 
  2508. information in them for your BBS specific or you can press INS key to
  2509. create a new one following my examples.
  2510. The details on the above options will be explained below:
  2511.  
  2512. Groups: This is the list or range of Groups that you want the file 
  2513. notification message to cover. If you press ENTER key on this option the 
  2514. list of all your defined Groups will pop-up, you will then use your spacebar
  2515. to select or toggle any Group you want to include. Basically, I have all
  2516. the Groups selected except my local filearea Groups #0 & 1 because I do
  2517. not want to report those areas to my downlinks or myself.
  2518.  
  2519. Conf#: This is your defined BBS conference number where you want the 
  2520. notification messages be posted. For messages to yourself and downlinks
  2521. use your Netmail conference. Please if you are running Wildcat! BBS,
  2522. do not use Conference 0. Set this to your netmail conference.
  2523.  
  2524. Use Aka: Your node address to use for this message notification setup.
  2525.  
  2526. Origin: This should be your origin line, modify for your BBS as seen fit.
  2527.  
  2528. Template: This should be the Allfix template macro file to be used.
  2529. Use MESSAGE template file for this setting as seen above. You can modify
  2530. the template file as you like in "Utilities" option under "Template Editor"
  2531. setting from the Main Menu.

  2533. From: This is from whom the message is coming. Use the word ALLFIX, and 
  2534. your Node address as seen above.
  2535.  
  2536. To: This is to whom the message will be going or addressed to. 
  2537. Use the simple word SYSOP as seen above, to qualify you and all your
  2538. downlinks globally or collectively.
  2539.  
  2540. Subject: This is the subject of the message, use the above sample subject.

  2542. Inactive: If you want to temporarily or permanently disable this file
  2543. notification report message then set this to YES, otherwise, to leave it
  2544. active, set this to NO as seen above.

  2546. Systems: If you want to get the copy of the notification then press enter
  2547. here and enter your node address, also if you have other downlinks and
  2548. you want them to receive similar message list all their node address
  2549. here individually. It is wise NOT to enter your HUB node address here,

  2551. and your downlinks nodes should be notified.

  2584. all your defined Groups will pop-up, you will then use your spacebar
  2585. to select or toggle any Group you want to include. Basically, I have all

  2649. this screen. This is where you will define the BBS file directories that
  2650. Allfix will scan for new file announcements. Any new file added to this
  2651. filearea will also be added to the list of newly received files 
  2652. notification message posted to your users that we have defined in our
  2653. last "New Files Reports".
  2654. Personally, I only have three of the above settings on my board because 
  2655. I only need to generate a report when I add any new files to the 2 local
  2656. Groups I have defined. One of them is for my FREE files area that I have
  2657. all my FidoNet setup documentations and the second area is for a shareware
  2658. Author (Tagline Express) that uses my board to support his programs.
  2659. You should not have to add any area or Groups that you have defined
  2660. previously in "New Files Reports" because if you do, you will be generating
  2661. the lists of new files reports twice. Only include your BBS local filearea
  2662. here.. The settings in this area is not really needed if you don't want
  2663. to report any new files added to your board locally, unless you actually
  2664. needed it because it has nothing to do with normal operation of Allfix,
  2665. but this feature is a very useful one when you do get the hang of it's
  2666. operation... Explanations of the above settings is as follows:
  2667.  
  2668. File Area: This is the filearea number from your BBS setup, when you 
  2669. press ENTER key here you will get the pop-up lists of all your predefined 
  2670. fileareas for you to pick the proper filearea. If you are defining a new 
  2671. area press INS key then press ENTER key on "File Area" option and your
  2672. BBS fileareas will will pop-up, just select the desired filearea you
  2673. want Allfix to scan and press ENTER.

  2675. Desc: Enter or input any description name you want to use to identify for
  2676. this area. You can use any description you like, see example above.

  2719. You will get this screen when you select Node Manager from the Main Menu.
  2720. This is where you will define all the HUBs that you are getting files from,
  2721. and all the Nodes that you are sending files to. You must have at least
  2722. your HUB address defined here for Allfix to toss your files.
  2723. The above setting is already properly setup for receiving files from
  2724. Planet Connect Satellite System, and the password PCSYS seen above is what
  2725. Planet Connect uses for all their Filebone. If you are using Planet Connect
  2726. then the above setting should be fine for you. But if you are not using
  2727. this setup for Planet Connect, then you must replace the HUB node address
  2728. with your actual HUB Node address in "System" and "Routing via" option,
  2729. and you must also replace the Password with the actual password that your
  2730. HUB must have or will assigned to you.
  2731. As you can see in my above settings, I do not use Billing options, so all
  2732. the settings relating to Billings has been left out. If you need to use
  2733. Billing options then you must refer to the Allfix documentation on that.
  2734. The Billing option is not necessarily needed for the operation of Allfix
  2735. to toss your files properly. Billing option is a cost calculation feature
  2736. for those HUBs that need to share "Cost Recovery Plan" in their Net.
  2737.  
  2738. I will explain some of the options above below, you should look in Allfix
  2739. manual to get more understanding and details on each option settings if
  2740. you need it.
  2741.  
  2742. System: This is the Node address for your HUB or downlink nodes if you 
  2743. have any. But you must at least have a HUB address and define it here.
  2744. You have to be getting the files from someone,and somehow, right?
  2745.  
  2746. Sysop: The name of this HUB or Downlink System Operator or you can just
  2747. put the word "SysOp" here as seen above.
  2748. Route Via: Put the same Node address of your HUB here since you will be
  2749. sending any files to him or her direct, that is if you are also sending
  2750. files to this HUB. But regardless, just put your same HUB address here 
  2751. because I am not sure any site or system will allow you to route files 
  2752. thru them.
  2753.  
  2754. Holding Directory: You may leave this option blank, so that Allfix will
  2755. use the default HOLD directory that we have defined previously.
  2756.  
  2757. Authorized Groups: This is the list of Groups that will be accessible to
  2758. this HUB or downlink. Press enter key on this option and you will get a 
  2759. pop-up lists of all your predefined Groups, then use your spacebar to
  2760. toggle the Groups for this HUB or downlink and then save it, and when
  2761. you return back to this menu you will see the ranges of Groups that you
  2762. have toggled accessible for this HUB or Downlink.
  2763.  
  2764. Fileecho Password: This is the password that will be given to you by your
  2765. HUB or password you assigned to your downlink to be able to send "FILEFIX"
  2766. request message to turn ON or OFF any of the fileecho areas wanted. 
  2767. (This is like the AREAFIX message for the echomail request).
  2768. Your HUB will assign you your Password, and if this is your downlink, then
  2769. you will assign him/her a password. Both parties must know the password.
  2770. The Password for those using the Planet Connect Satellite System is PCSYS
  2771. as seen above.
  2772.  
  2773. AreaMgr Password: More or less like the one I have explained above.
  2774. Except that this is the password to access the Area manager function.
  2775.  
  2776. Use AKA: Your node address that you will be using for this HUB or
  2777. downlinks. This should be your own node address not your HUB or downlink
  2778. node address.
  2779.  
  2780. File Attach Status: This is the status that will be put on netmails messages
  2781. that has all the files attached for this Node. Use spacebar for various 
  2782. options. If your downlink is calling you to pickup his files then put 
  2783. HOLD here. If you are sending files to your HUB then you may use DIRECT here.
  2784. But if you are not sending files to your HUB but only calling your HUB to 
  2785. pickup your files then you can set this to NONE here.. 
  2786. Use your ENTER key to toggle or circle thru all the available options allowed.
  2787.  
  2788. Other Mail Status: Same as above except this is for any other mails or
  2789. netmails generated by Allfix to this HUB or downlink system without any 
  2790. file attached. Example of such message is a notification message or
  2791. auto response mails generated by Allfix. Use the same procedure as
  2792. in "File Attach Status" settings as explained above.
  2793.  
  2794. TIC File Mode: Always use the "Advanced TIC file" here so that all info 
  2795. will be written or listed extensively in the TIC files going to this HUB
  2796. or downlink.
  2797.  
  2798. Packing Mode: This field determines if forwarded files for this system
  2799. should be compressed into a TIC archive or not. The available options are:
  2800.  
  2801. No packing: Do not pack any files. 
  2802. Pack TIC files: Pack all the .TIC files into a TIC archive.
  2803. Pack ALL files: Pack all the forwarded files including the .TIC files
  2804.                 into a TIC archive.
  2805.  
  2806. Note: I prefer not to pack the files, so I have used "No Packing".

  2808. Inactive: Option to enable or disable this HUB or Node.

  2810. Include template file: I do not include any template for my settings.
  2811. If you need to include template then enable this option.

  2813. Send notify list: This will tell Allfix if you want to send notification
  2814. message to this system. You should only send notification to your downlink
  2815. not your HUB.

  2817. Forward requests: This field determines whether or not ALLFIX should 
  2818. forward requests for unknown areas, made by this system via the AreaMgr, 
  2819. to an uplink. For Planet Connect Satellite System, set this to NO.
  2820.  
  2821. Allow Auto-add: This is to let Allfix know if to auto-add a new area to 
  2822. this HUB or downlink.
  2823.  
  2824. Remote maintenance: I recommend that this always set to No. As you don't 
  2825. want any system doing a remote maintenance on your system.
  2826. This option determines whether or not this system is allowed to perform 
  2827. remote maintenance for another system by using the %FROM AreaMgr command. 
  2828. This option is only available in the registered version.
  2829.  
  2830. Compression type: (e.g ZIP) This is the compression format to be used for
  2831. this HUB or downlink.
  2832.  
  2833. The settings above should be good for every normal setup.
  2834. As explained before I do not use the Billing option, so they are not covered

  2895. When you select Utilities and Import data from the main menu you will get
  2896. this screen. This is where you will import your fileecho list file such
  2897. as FILEBONE.NA, FILEBONE.NO or any of your other Private Network fileecho
  2898. list that you may have, so that the fileecho areas in these files will be
  2899. imported and added to the Allfix setup Master fileecho area database.
  2900.  
  2901. Before you start this import process, you should copy all the fileecho
  2902. list files (FILEBONE.NA, FILEBONE.NO etc) into your Allfix main directory
  2903. (e.g. C:\ALLFIX\). You must have already setup all your Groups with their
  2904. respective file MASKs setting as previously explained when defining Groups.
  2905. Then highlight the second option above that says "FILEBONE.NA/NO" and
  2906. press enter key and you will get a pop-up dialog menu (as seen on next
  2907. screen) asking you for the path and filename of the fileecho list file
  2908. to import, just type the full path and the filename in there and Allfix
  2909. will start the import process. Use or repeat the same procedure to import
  2910. any and all fileecho lists you want to import.
  2911.  
  2912. Immediately after the import procedure is finished, saved your settings 
  2913. and exit to DOS, and from inside Allfix main directory, run the following
  2914. command to update all the fileecho area descriptions for the newly imported 
  2915. areas:
  2916.  
  2917. Examples for updating area description for FILEBONE.NA and FILEBONE.NO
  2918. is as seen below:

  2928. in this archive has been imported into this sample setup for you, so you
  2929. do not need to do any importation again, but above is the procedure you 
  2930. will use to import the fileecho lists files whenever you receive a newer
  2931. copy of the files and you want to update them in your Allfix database.

  2933. If you are a Wildcat! Sysop and have been using WCFF, or File Forward
  2934. by the author of Wildmail, then you can use the option with "FILEFWD"
  2935. above to import your present configuration files into Allfix database.

  2961. This is the sample pop-up dialog prompt that you will get when you choose
  2962. to import any of your fileecho list files as explained in the earlier pages.

  2964. If Allfix encounter any fileecho area that has already been imported into
  2965. it's database, it will not import that area again. so it is safe to import
  2966. your fileecho list files in this option as many times as you want without
  2967. jeopardizing any of your previous import, as only the new areas will be
  2968. imported.
  2969. You should always do this import procedure whenever you receive a new
  2970. fileecho list files so you can add any newly added areas to the fileecho 
  2971. list into your Allfix master database.
  2972. Also you should make sure before you start the import process to check if
  2973. any new Group has been added to the fileecho list file so that you may
  2974. define the new Group, with the MASK setting before you perform the 
  2975. importation procedure.
  2976.  
  2977. Whenever you do perform a new import procedure, Allfix will tell you that
  2978. new areas has been added, you should then go into the Fileecho Manager
  2979. to match each new area to the appropriate filearea of your BBS so that
  2980. the files you received will be tossed to the proper fileareas.
  2981. Any area that you do not want on your BBS should be marked or setup as
  2982. Pass-Through areas as explained in earlier part of this documentation.
